Show Fzsg lifei3 tens! Dr. Gled Wf Howard, chairman of the Weber State College department of police science, has been appointed by Gov. Scott M. Matheson to the Council of Peace Officers Standards and Training. The four-year term became effective effec-tive June 1. THE COUNCIL meets periodically to consider problems of the various law enforcement agencies in the state. Council members will meet with Larry Lunnen, state commissioner of the Department of Public Safety. Mr. Lunnen was director of the police science program at Weber State a number of years ago. Dr. Howard will attend his first meeting at the State Capitol Thursday as a member of the council. DR. HOWARD said all Utah peace officers are required by the Utah Legislature to take the standards and training course within 18 months after employment. The operation of this program is of major concern con-cern to the council. The course includes supervisory super-visory management, fire arms, arrests and seizure and the many other duties of law enforcement officers. DURING THE 1976-77 term these subjects were taught peace officers at Weber State. Dr. Howard said he assumes some of the subjects will again be taught at Weber State as well as at other locations, loca-tions, although he hasn't had definite word on this. |
