Don't even consider con-sider their preseason record when you talk about the Darts. "These games don't mean that much to us. Sure we'd like to win but they are there to help get your club ready for the league action. There's no doubt that we experiment in preseason, but then that's what it's there for, isn't it?" asked Mike. Coach Gardner feels that same way about this club. "We might not win early but w e'll be in the thick of it come January." Truth is the Darts have won a couple of games this early, just ask Woods Cross. THERE IS a strance twist to the Darts this season. They have five lefthanders on the squad. "Coach Robison has the lefties and 1 take the right handed shooter" joked Coach Gardner. Leading scorer for the Darts thus far has been junior Brian Taylor. Brian is the younger brot her of Craig who played for the Darts and then went on to USU. Brian is one of those lefthanded players who stands 6'3" and is still going. "Be- ; cause of his grow th no one can really judge just how big he'll . get. He could very well be a great college player before he's through," noted Mike. THE TWO captains of the club are seniors Lance Hill and Brad Caldwell. Lance comes from the famous Hill family, yes his brother is Ryan who played for the Darts and is now on the Weber State football club. At 6'3" Lance is caught between playing both guard and forward, but he seems to enjoy both rolls. Lance is extremely ex-tremely aggressive on the court and loves the contact Although only 6' I" Brad is one of the best rehounders on the club because of his bulk and positioning. "Brad loves it under the boards, the rougher it gets the more he likes it." noted his coaches. THE BIG man in the middle is h'tV' senior Dav id Bock. "The key is to keep him in the game. He has foul nouhlcN at times." added his co.uh In deed the Darts need his sie in the middle for rebounding as well as scoring. Seniors Lynn Lloyd anj Brent Hatch also see considei able action along wuh Mike McCnll. Lloyd is a streak shooter shoo-ter who can score from anywhere any-where on the floor when he gets going, just ask Judge. Lynn is also aggressive at both ends of the floor. Brent is exteme'y quick and jumps well w hich makes him a double threat to drive to the bucket A great all round athlete Brent is one ol those guy s ho lov es to win and hates to lose. Mike is a fine ball handler and gid outside shooter. JLMORMIkECoknicre.a fine ball handler, has also seen some actwnjn the cailv going and could see more as the year rolls on. Davis is rich in tradition 1 hey annually make the It ip to Ihe stale tournament Coach Gardner-look to Cgden as being the top dub in the rcon acain but don't be surprised it the Darts arc right up there with the I'gers when the dast settles. |
