Show Farmington: Better Fire Ral$ By KATHRYN JENNINGS The Farmington City Council Coun-cil met Dec. 18 and Mayor E.T. Johnson reported on the letter he had received in the mail. THE LNSL'RANCE Services offices of Utah notified the mayor that evaluation of the fire insurance classification for Farmington and that the protection pro-tection class has improved to class 6, which was formerly 8. The new rating is a result of many improvements over the past few years, involving water wa-ter lines looping, replacement of undersized lines, acquisition acquisi-tion of fire fighting equipment and a very well organized and well trained fire department. THE NEW classification will result in a decrease in fire insurance rates for many in- sured commercial properties within Farmington. New rates are effective Dec. 1, 1980. The change from Class 8 to Class 6 will affect typical mercantile mer-cantile properties to a degree depending on the type of building build-ing construction, the hazard of occupancy and other rating factors. OVERALL EFFECT is usually about 25 percent for wood frame buildings and 35 percent for masonry (joisted) and fire resistive buildings. Variations in construction, occupancy and private protec--tion can result in increases or decreases from this coverage. The effect of this Protection Class improvement on residential re-sidential properties is also difficult dif-ficult to determine. THERE WAS a limited report re-port from the planning commission. Robert Goldsberry and Associates sent the audit report re-port which was reviewed by David Pritchett and the city was complimented on many items including investments.
