Vossfflis Din itii tea Kevin Sumsion and Sondra Van Ert both were awarded college scholarships and first place trophies for clocking the fastest time in their respective re-spective categories in the Ski Challenge '79 race held at Snowbird on Saturday, April .7. -i SPONSORED BY KTVX Television and Snowbird Resort the event recognizes Utah's fastest high school age recreational skiers as well as ,the classified racers. On a giant slalom course set on Lower Wilbere Ridge, Sondra Van Ert, a ninth grader at Millcreek Jr. High, skied the two fastest runs in the Women's Classified Racers division. KEVIN, WHO is a graduating graduat-ing senior at Bountiful High, turned in the best times in the Men's Recreational Skiers race. Pushing his brother, Jeff Sumsion took third place' honors; Curtis Sampson came in fifth; and Owen Reeder was the other BHS man who successfully qualified in the recreational group. Tim Murray, also of Bountiful Boun-tiful High, placed seventh in the Men's Classified Racers division. THE FOLLOWING week, Sondra Van Ert clocked the fastest women's time in the 31st annual Knudsen Cup held at Brighton on April 14. This Is probably the oldest annual high school team race in America. . Both the Knudsen Cup and the Ski Challenge races are designed to encourage the sport of ski racing among Utah's high school aged young people. |
