Arthur Weight of Bountiful, Boun-tiful, a junior high school counselor in the Davis County School District, has been awarded a doctoral degree in counseling and guidance from Brigham Young University. ; HE RECEIVED the degree at the 104th Commencement exercises April 20 in the Marriott Center at which 2,202 degrees were awarded. A total to-tal of 163 doctoral degrees were given, 124 of which were Juris Doctor degrees from the fourth law school class. Dr. Weight's dissertation is entitled "Youth Suicide: A Study of Common Characteristics Found Among Youths Who Committed Suicide in Four Utah Counties 1970 Through 197a" His study identified, through psychological autopsy, the socio-economic, behavioral, psychological, emotional and religious characteristics common among youths between the ages of 13 and 25 who committed suicide in Davis, Salt Lake, Utah and Weber counties during that six-year period. A 1952 graduate of BYU High School, Dr. Weight earned the BS degree in sociology at BYU in 1958 and the MS degree in counseling and guidance at BYU in 1968. He has worked in the Davis County School District for the past seven years and was president of the Utah School Counselors' Association (1977-78) and president of the Davis District Counselors (1975-76). HE SERVED a mission to Virginia and North Carolina (1955-57) for the LDS Church and has held various positions since that time. He is the son of the late Dr. Jesse J. Weight and Mrs. Weight of Provo. |
