State medical authorities have the in-, fluensa so well in hand that no epidemic of the malady is expected, the public health service announced today. Ray Ward In the city hall this morning and discussed the possible possi-ble spread of influenza in Ogdcn. With tho death of a woman last "night, and with the disease reported j in a number of local homos the call ( for precaution has been sounded and .every effort possible to check the spread of tho disease will be taken. ! At the meeting this morning Mayor (Frank Francis, Commissioner Ward, ! Commissioner Flygare, City Recorder 'C. T. Moves, Dr. E. C Rich, Dr. H. W.l 'Nelson, Dr. R. S. Joyce, Dr. W. R.J I Brown. E. T. Spencer, W. C. Dinford, :W. R Kimball, Sanitary Inspector 'George Shorten and others gave ihoir opinions on checking the disease. , At a local hotel five jiatients are said to be suffering froni a disease which may be influenza. The patients are being watched and any symptoms of the disease will be noted and the patients will be isolated Immediately.' Dr. R. S. Joyce, physician for the' railroads here, said: ' Dr. Joyce Gives Views. "Ogden should not bo caught with-j out means and ways of prevention this! I year. The lesson of last year should jbe a strong teacher to all and steps i to handle the epidemic, if it comes. J should be taken at once. People having hav-ing colds, pneumonia, and in fact all ailments should be isolated until the case Is taken into tho hands of physicians phy-sicians and in case the people have disease dis-ease which may spread, they should be isolated. "Dishes should be boiled. In fact, every article used by the patients should be disinfected. The open air window treatment for "flu" patients is not a good one. "In my opinion the sweeping of streets, depot platforms, apartment houses, and in fact all sweepings, should proceed in a manner that will not cause germs to spread- The smoke nuisance should bo checked." Steps to prepare quarters for ill peo- 1 pie coming into Ogden on the trains will bo taken up at once, according to Dr. Joyce, and a place suitable for in 1 vestigating and caring for cases will 1 be obtained. The railroad officials will be asked to render their assist- : anco in checking the disease. Dr. E. C. Rich, president of the ; Weber Medical association, said in I part: tl "An organization should be formed! at once to prevent influenza: Provisions Provi-sions to care for those who have the disease should be taken. In Ogden today more than ten supposed sup-posed cases of influenza are said t9 exist, according to the health department depart-ment officials. I Bronchial pneumonia is given as i the cause of deaths that have occurred here of late. i Mrs. Willard Gilson, a resident of 'Ogden, died this morning' of bronchial pneumonia. At Green River. Wyoming, more than 40 cases of the plague have been reported and the wave is said to bo creeping west from Chicago and other cities. Fiftj -three deaths were recorded record-ed at Chicago of influenza yesterday. Provisions for transients coming into Ogden were taken today when the annex at the Dec Jrlospital was placed in readiness for emergencies. Miss R. SchwarLs, in charge of the nurses last year during the spread of the disease will be employed in her old position, according to Commissioned Commission-ed J. Ray Ward. She will have direct charge of the nursing of patients. Volunteers Needed Volunteers who arc anxious to do their bit in checking the coming of the epidemic are urged to communicate communi-cate with the city health department at once. Arrangements to have a number of, cots sent to Ogden from the Utalr Ag- j ricultural college at Logan have been made. "Citizens of Ogden are urged to co- operate with the city and medical authorities au-thorities in checking the plague," said Mayor Francis, "and the city will spare no expense in stamping out the dreaded disease."
