the usual entrance but the fates in the form of the charming young ladies whose dictum was law in this case ordained otherwise One of the white robed figures met the bewildered be-wildered one at the door and guided him to a window at the side of the house Here the ghostly guide rapped three times and was promptly answered by another spook who opened the window and allowed the visitor to enter in as dignified a manner as the circumstances circum-stances admitted He found himself in a room lighted only by grinning Jack olanterns His guide beckoned him and he followed to a door on which was painted a skull and cross bones and I below these the legend Abandon all hope ye who enter here He didnt want to proceed further but he thought he heard a faint feminine giggle from the guide as he showed signs of cowardice and that nerved him for the ordeal He was piloted across the river Styx of sticks after he passed the dreaded threshold to a chorus of groans that made his hair rise But his troubles were not yet at an end He must be presented to the queen of Hades who sat on her throne looking anything but reassuring His obeisance ob-eisance over he was greeted by the shadowy figures in the room with anything any-thing but unearthly laughter He then donned the robe of the order a sheet and helped to initiate and terrify the next comer After supper the ghostly habiliments were doffed
