Show Abbotts Celebrate Golden Wedding Here Celebrating their Golden Wedding anniversary in St. George and Pine Valley over the week end, were Mr. and Mrs. James Smith Abbott, of Bunkerville, parents of Mrs. Gus Pendleton of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Pendleton were hosts to the family members who came for the event from California and Nevada, ten of their twelve living children and many grandchildren being present. The actual date of their wedding anniversary is Aug. 19, but the affair was held over Saturday and Sunday to make possible the attendance of their youngest son, Stephen Elmer Abbott, Ab-bott, who x left on Tuesday evening eve-ning to report for military duty. Mr. Abbott is a son of Myron land Laura J. Allen Abbot, and I was born in Ogden Canyon, Jan. 23, 1868. The family came to Bunkerville in 1877, James going later to Beaver, and- then to Se-vipr Se-vipr counties. Mrs. Abbott was born in Woods Cross, Nov. 11, 1876, a daughter of Hyrum and Anna Pack Robinson. Robin-son. The family moved to Hinckley Hinck-ley when she was a child. She met Mr. Abbott while visiting relatives in eastern Nevada, July 1, 1892. They became engaged July 4, and were married at her home in Hinckley Aug. 19, 1892. Ten days later Mr. Abbott left . for New Zealand to fill a mission for the L. D. S. church, returning three and one-half years later. In 1897 they moved to Dela-mar, Dela-mar, Nev., and in 1899 settled permanently in Bunkerville, Nev. In 1900 Mr. Abbott was appointed postmaster, a position which he filled for 39 years. He also served as ward clerk over the same period, per-iod, and has long been a member of the high priests of that stake. Mrs. Abbott has devoted much time to Relief Society work, along with her home duties. They were parents of 14 children, 12 living to adult age. They also have 26 living grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. The living . children include: Robert Leslie, Glendale, Calif.; James Ivan, Mrs. Don Hughes, and Stephen Elmer, Los Angeles; Mrs. Gus Pendleton, St. George; Mrs. A. N. Stephens, Bunkerville; Mrs. R. K. Zemur, Burbank, Calif.; Delman S. Abbott and Mrs. William Wil-liam B. Mclntyre, Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Peter Ostergaard, Los Angeles; An-geles; Mrs. Merlin C. Smith, St. George; and Miss Jean Abbott, Bunkerville. Saturday was spent visiting at the Pendleton home in St. George and Sunday in Pine Valley, the visitors returning home Monday. |
