Show Dodges' Honored At Panguitch On Golden Wedding Anniversary PANGUITCH, Utah In spite of the heavy snow and blizzard on January 12, about 175 friends and relatives enjoyed the Golden Wedding Wed-ding celebration of Mr. and Mrs. George G. Dodds, held at the south ward chapel here. A fine program was rendered, consisting of several of the old time songs, piano selections, and a few short talks given by friends. L. C. Sargent wrote and read a tribute to them on their Golden Wedding day and Mrs. Hettie L. Henrie also wrote a tribute to them. After the program everyone every-one enjoyed dancing the old time dances. Light refreshments were served and many beautiful and useful gifts were received by the couple. George Dodds was born in New Harmony August 1, 1869. He came to Panguitch with his folks in 1878. He used ox teams to help run one of the first saw mills in Panguitch valley. He spent his early life on a ranch and later went into the sheep and cattle business. He served as Garfield county sheriff for four years at the time of the world war and was on the draft board at that time. His wife, Sarah Henrie Dodds, was born on January 5, 1872, at Panguitch. She has been an active worker in the L.D.S. church all her life, having worked in primary and Sunday school and as a relief re-lief society teacher for many years. They were married on January 12, 1890, at Panguitch; they had 10 children, six of them now living, liv-ing, they are: Jas. W. Dodds, Mrs. Joseph Owens, D. H. Dodds, Mrs. Bern Miller, "Mrs. J. H. Peterson all of Panguitch and Glynn" Dodds of St. George. There is also a foster daughter, Mrs. Del Mar Nelson of Provo and 19 grandchildren. grand-children. George Dodds and his wife lived at Panguitch until 1936 when they moved to St. George to work as missionaries in the Temple. They returned to their home Thursday, Jan. 18, to resume re-sume their duties at the Temple. |
