Show DEATH OF MRS. GRAY CASTS GLOOM OVER TOWN OF IVINS IVINS. A deep bloom fell over our community when Mrs. Matilda Stucki Gray died suddenly. She had only been ill a short time. Mrs. Gray was a daughter of Christian and Mary Stucki of Santa Clara. She was born March 29, 1888 and until her high school days lived with her parents at Santa Clara. After graduating from the public schools she attended college at Cedar City and graduated from that institution. institu-tion. She later served as a teacher in the public schools of Washington county. coun-ty. In 1915 she was married to Alden Gray of Santa Clara where for several sev-eral years they made their home. In January, 1922, the family moved to the new townsite of Ivins and have resided re-sided here since. They were the first family to locate here. Being pioneers, they were compelled to content themselves them-selves with many inconveniences. By hard work and practicing thrift they were successful in building for themselves them-selves a comfortable home. As a girl, Mrs. Gray was kind, honest hon-est and affectionate. These qualities were cultivated and highly esteemed by her during her entire life. She was a faithful church worker and a teacher in some of the auxiliary organizations and at the time of her death was president of the Ivins branch of the Relief . Society. She was a devoted and lovable wife and a good, kind and affectionate mother. Her greatest ambition was to raise a good family. The entire community feels that they have lost a sister and a mother and deeply sympathize with those who have been bereft of their loved one. |
