Uintah's Slaugh finished the year with a 23-3 record. Delta captured first place in the 1966 state tournament with 69 points and Uintah placed second at 62 points. Union captured third at 59 counters. Also placing for Uintah in 1966 were: Craig Slaugh, second, 16-8; Billy War-die, War-die, first, 26-1-1; Joe Davis, first, 26-1; Lane Fletcher, second, 21-3-1 and Bob ray pinned Young in the first round. Ed Johnson pinned Art Daley in a 200 pound match in the Alumni Meet and Johnson garnered first place in the heavyweight class in 1969 and snared third place titles in 1968 and 1969. "For the fourth time in a decade and twice in succession, the Uintah Ute wrestling team brought home the state Class B championship Friday. Besides the state championship, champion-ship, the team brought home four first places, two second places and four third places won at the finals in Moab Friday and Saturday of last week. Wilkins is Coach Preece's first sophomore to take first in the state tournament. 120 lb. Dale Massey was beaten at region in Roosevelt by Redd from Monticello, but Massey defeated Redd 5 to 3 for first place at the state tournament. Jim Miller, 165, decisioned Moore from North Summit who placed third in state in 154 lbs. last year. Jim is an outstanding junior on the Ute squad. Eddy Johnson, unlimited, pinned Halls from Morgan in the first period." Placing second were Bob Corbin, 154; Greg Cook, 127; Dave Broome, 112 and Joe Gowen, 133. The Uintah High School state champion cham-pion who was number three in the Alumni Meet in the number of years since he placed first was Creg Wilkins. Wilkins nabbed state crowns as a sophomore in 1969 and as a senior in 1971. He didn't place in 1970. Wilkins, 112, placed first in 1971 to become a two-time state champ. He finished the year with 29 wins, 0 losses and 14 pins. He had an overall record of 76-7 in three years. Wilkins beat Mike Romero, Morgan, 4-0, for 1st place. The Ute team entered a fantastic number of ten men in the 1971 finals, seven men placed first in the 1971 state tournament, two second and one fourth for a Uintah total of 123. Delta placed second at 64 counters. Also placing in 1971 were: Steve Ames, 119; Robby Gray, 155; Mark Hatch, unlimited, second; Cliff Grua, 126, fourth. The oldest wrestler at the Alumni Meet at Uintah High School was Chuck Henry who placed first in 1965 at the Nebraska State Tournament. Henry is a former head Uintah High School wrestling coach. Other two-time state champions who competed in the Alumni Meet at Uintah Uin-tah High School were Eugene Woody and Jr. Tripp. Woody garnered first place crowns in 1974 and 1975 and placed plac-ed second as a senior in 1976. Uintah's Woody lost to Pleasant Grove's Craig Walker, 3 to 2, in 1976 in his shot at three state titles. Tripp garnered state championships in 1977 and 1978. Tripp beat Tony Spehar of Davis, 8 to 6, for top 138 honors in 1977 and defeated Lon Allen of Timpview, 7-3, for the 145 pound title in 1978. Many other state tournament placers also competed in the Alumni Meet. Josh Reynolds who beat Frankie Jaramillo, 5-2, in the 135 Alumni Meet match, placed first in 1979 and second in 1981. Jaramillo pocketed first place in 1979 and snared two third places. Ronnie Horrocks placed fourth in 1980. David Gentry placed second in 1983 and placed sixth in 1981. Scott Murray netted a second and a third place. Tim Houle was a state champion from Wisconsin. Allan Holmes garnered two second place titles in 1977-78 and one fifth place in 1979. Matt Hacking garnered two third places in 1979 and 1980. Brad Funk and Raymond Perry placed sixth. Don Johnson nabbed fourth place and Darrin Bailey snared fourth in 1983. Dale Delano placed fifth in California in 1977 and Kevin Huber placed first for the Uintah Utes in 1977 and second at 98 pounds in 1976. Huber battled Jr. Tripp in the 165 pound contest con-test in the Alumni Meet. Jody Young won the 185 pound title for the Utes in 1983 and Calvin Murray placed first in 1978. Murray also snared two fourths. Jeff Weeks, heavyweight, netted a second se-cond and third. Shawn O'Brien placed plac-ed second for the Utes in the heavyweight clas in 1983.
