Show LEMON IS FIRED Bob Lemon, promised by George Steinbrenner last December that he would manage the New York Yankees for the entire 1982 season "no matter what" was fired Sunday after serving only three weeks and replaced by Gene Michael. It marked the second time Lemon was fired as Yankee manager and the eighth managerial change for the Yankees since Steinbrenner bought the club on Jan. 3, 1972. Steinbrenner personally notified Lemon of the switch he was making shortly after the Yankees snapped a three-game losing slide by salvaging the final contest of a four game series with the Detroit Tigers, 3-1, at Yankee Stadium. |
