Show It is calculated by those qualified to judge, that the destruction of timber by fires during the summer season in the neighboring canyons is greater than the amount cut for use by the public. We have no doubt but that it would pay - as well as be adjudged good policy if district forest rangers were appointed to suppress fires in their incipiency and endeavor to place the blame where the culpability of these disasters should rest. Some method of stopping this destruction will be necessary in the near future. Every year the people who fell and haul cord wood have to make longer journeys, which means to the consumer raised prices. We trust that at the next session of the legislature, this subject may receive such attention as its importance demands. |
