Show FIREMEN ATTEND THE STATE MEET o ' Thursday morning, six of the members of the local fire department depart-ment treked out to Provo. the convention con-vention city for the Utah State Firemen's Association for 1933. According to the party they were j warmly received there by brother embers from other cities in the I state. I Thursday finished up the business busi-ness of the convention with the election of officers for 1934 and the changes in the constitution and by-laws of the association. This part of the business presented present-ed some hot arguments and heated debate but the desired results were finally obtained. Friday, the 18th," was the parade par-ade and turnament. The local boys made quite an impression for such a young department in the parade. First Aid contests round-1 ed out tha morning to the enlight-ment enlight-ment of the firemen. " In the afternoon after-noon the local firemen received quite a bit of- knowledge and thrills in the hose coupling con- tests by team, singly and by truck and the ladder climbing events. j At the invitation of Chief Hardy of the Heber City department, the boys were given a ride in Heber City's new truck. This was a thrill that kept them awake nights for quite awhile acording to the assistant as-sistant chief, C. H. Selch. Chief Hardy also gave the boys quite a talk on the apparatus and im-i pressed on them the fact that they I must learn to obtain the right of way and to enforce the new ordinance, or-dinance, j "The department' came back from their first convention full of a new courage and desire to further fur-ther protect property and if needs be life', said the local chief, "It was a real education to all of us." Those making the trip were Dr. W. D. Bishop, Chief, C. H. Selch, Assistant Chief; Dean Powell, Delegate: and Donald Bench, Floyd Baker and Robert Woods, Fire- men. Homer Liddell came down, from Salt Lake City, Friday, for; the contests being unable to ac-l company the rest of the department depart-ment to Provo from here. He reports re-ports spending an educational and enjoyable four hours with Chief Knight of Salt Lake Citys Depart- j ment on fire fighting methods. The convention is to be at j Richfield next year and the local boys are planning now to go. |
