A. branch in Salt Lake that the" City application for a loan to construct a waterworks now stnds a good chance of immediate action. This application on which was filed last summer, received the approval ap-proval of the Salt Lake office, some time ago, but was held in the Washington office, pending the decision of the Utah State Supreme Sup-reme court on the Granger Act. Previous decisions on this act, In test cases brought against Og-den Og-den and Santequin have been unfavorable un-favorable to the cities. The de-j de-j cision just handed down, however, is a reversal of the former ones, and gives the apinion that it is now legal for cities to pledge revenue re-venue from a new utilities system or part system to pay for the construction. con-struction. According to Atty. Porter the final approval by the Washington office of the P. W. A. is a mere , formality, and there should be little "doubt about the project going go-ing through. An ordinance was passed by the City Council last month, providing for bonds for the repayment of the loan should it bo made available. Word from Sec. Ickes, was to the effect that the projects waiting wait-ing for this decision would be provided pro-vided with funds as soon as their legality., was. established, regardless regard-less of the "fact that he has stated I Utah has-1 already received . more than its share" of P. W. A funds. '5 There are several other cities in the State which have projects a-'1 waiting the same decision. , , |
