Citizen of the Year Buys First Lions Club Birthday Calendar The Moab Lions Club announces the Kick-off of their annual Community Birthday Calendar Sales for 1.90 to begin this week. This.,' is a community service project that has been carried on by the Lions for many years. Normally Normal-ly it takes place in September but then the calendars some- times arrive too late for distribution before the first of the year. In order to make sure of delivery of all calendars by Christmas, this year's campaign cam-paign will end by September 7. Despite inflationary conditions the price of the calendars still remains at $2 each. Last year the Lions raised some $600 through their calendar sales program. "Eye care needs for the needy families in Moab was the lowest in several years," a Lions spokesman said. "How- er, the money you spent on the purchase of calendars was not wasted," he said. The Lions helped finance and conduct a Lazy Eye clinic for pre-school children and such community service and city beautification projects as tables ta-bles at the Old City Park and a rose garden at the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center. In the photograph above, ; Co-chairman Slim Mabery is seen taking an order from "Citizen-of-the-Year Award" winner, Harold Jacobs, for the first calendar of the campaign. Mr. Jacobs is quoted as saying: "I never miss the opportunity of assisting in this : humanitarian project. If the Lions are willing to knock themselves out, going from door to door for weeks on end to help our community's underprivileged, I think the least we can do as citizens is to purchase a calendar. I feel honored to have the opportunity opportun-ity to make the first purchase." |
