Show .Rep. Biack Involved Deeply In 1973 Utah Legislature State ' Representative Calvin Black of Mont-icello Mont-icello this week reported on activities in the State House of Representatives. Represent-atives. He indicated that he had met with Highway Department officials last week and it appears that a system has been tent atively worked out so that Counties and Cities can start getting the interest int-erest earnings on their Collector funds from now on. I'p until this time, said Rep. Black. "The State general fund has been getting what I consider con-sider to be a "windfall-' of the interest on these monies that belong to Counties and Cities." Black also indicated that he is presently having hav-ing a bill prepared which would provide for additions addi-tions to the Collector system in Garfield. Kane and San Juan Counties. Another bill would appropriate ap-propriate S3 million toward to-ward the construction of the road from Boulder to Torrey in Wayne and Garfield Counties. Some of these proposals will be difficult, if not impossible impos-sible to get passed, he indicated. He requested letters of support from local Chamber of Commerce Com-merce and other organizations organ-izations to aid in the passage pas-sage of the bills. A bill to increase the bid ceiling on the Collector Col-lector Road projects is being co-sponsored bv Rep. Black. This bill would allow Counties to construct roads with Collector funds without having to bid them up to $75,000 instead of the present $25,000 limit. He reported that there is a good deal of opposition to the measure from the Associated General Contractors Con-tractors and from labor unions, although most of the County Commissioners Commission-ers in the state are in favor of the measure. |
