Second grade students created a flag from their handprints. Third grade students wrote letters to President and Mrs. Bush. Students had many questions to ask of the first couple, as well as comments, suggestions and promises of their own. The following are some excerpts from their letters: "Thank you for protecting our country." "Why do you live in Washington, D.C.?" "I like the color of your house." "It is an honor to help our country." "Is it hard to be president?" "Mrs. Bush, I like your hair." "Do kids in schools by your house get to go to field trips to the White House?" "I will help make the world a better place." Utah Department of Health sponsoring free STD testing During the week of September 18-22, 2006, the Utah Department of Healthis Sexually Transmitted Trans-mitted Disease Control Program 'will be sponsoring sponsor-ing free Gonorrhea and Chlamydia testing at various vari-ous locations throughout the state. Sexually transmitted diseases dis-eases (STDs), specifically Gonorrhea and Chlamydia, can cause harmful, often irreversible, health complications compli-cations such as reproductive reproduc-tive health problems, fetal and perinatal health problems prob-lems and cancer. These complications can be avoided if detected early ear-ly enough, which is why screening is very important. impor-tant. Since 2001, Utah has seen a 222 percent increase in-crease in the number of reported Gonorrhea cases and a 51 percent increase in Chlamydia cases. The incidence in-cidence rate for Gonorrhea increased to 28.75 cases per 100,000 population in 2005 compared to 8.75 cases cas-es per 100,000 population in 2001. The incidence rate for Chlamydia increased tol81.97 cases per 100,000 population in 2005 compared com-pared to a rate of 132.62 cases per 100,000 population popula-tion in 2001. Since women are biologically bio-logically more susceptible to become infected with a STD, they suffer more frequently fre-quently and often develop serious complications as a result of untreated Chlamydia Chla-mydia and Gonorrhea than men do. . In women, untreated Gonorrhea or Chlamydia infections can spread into the uterus or fallopian tubes and cause pelvic inflammatory in-flammatory disease (PID). PID can permanently damage dam-age the fallopian tubes, uterus and surrounding tissues, leading to infertility, infer-tility, chronic pelvic pain and pregnancy outside the uterus. ' Both Chlamydia and Gonorrhea infections can also cause serious complications com-plications in an infant if a woman is infected during pregnancy and not diagnosed diag-nosed and treated appropriately. appro-priately. In 2005, 67 percent of all diagnosed Chlamydia cases and 44 percent of. diagnosed di-agnosed Gonorrhea cases were females. - All sexually active people peo-ple should be screened for infection.
