Show FRANK DEMING COMMANDER OF STATE LEGION SALT LAKE CITY, Aug. 11. Provo legionnaires scored a sweeping sweep-ing triumph in state elections held here today, Frank W. Doming being be-ing named commander of the American Amer-ican Legion, Department of Utah, and Mrs. L. R. Edwards being chosen chos-en president of the Utah auxiliary. The 1929 state convention goes to Ogden, where it was held in 1927. Mahey "Withdraws Deming was elected state commander com-mander by acclamation, following the withdrawal of Ex-Governor Charles R. Mabcy. Deming had been ftrongly urged to withdraw, considerable pressure being brought to bear toward this end, but his supporters, sup-porters, confident of victory, insisted in-sisted that he remain in the race, and after the possibility of Dem ing's withdrawal was eliminated, Mahey withdrew and the unanimous unani-mous election result then occurred. The new state commander was placed in nomination by Joseph R. Nelson, Spanish Fork attorney, who nominated John E. Booth of that city for the post when Booth was elected a few years ago. Mrs. Edwards was strongly supported sup-ported for the leadership of the auxiliary, aux-iliary, and won by an impressive majority. She was nominated V Mrs. Algie Eggertsen Ballif of Provo. It: addition to having the heads of the two organizations electel from Provo Post No. 13, two of the six delegates to the national auxiliary auxil-iary convention are from Provo, Mrs. Edwards and Mrs. D. Orlo Allen being named. - Following Deming's election, other officers of the legion were named as follows: first vice , president, Reuben Gardner, Spanish Fork; second vice president, Ezra Jensen, Jen-sen, Garland; third vice president, Art Strong, Delta; laternate national nation-al committee man, Henry Prickett, St. George. In addition to Mrs. Edwards, auxiliary aux-iliary officers elected follow: first vice president, Mrs. Marguerite Taylor Larson, Salt Lake City; second sec-ond vice president, Mrs. Henry Ol-sen, Ol-sen, Price; treasurer, Mrs. Edna Harlan, Ogden; historian, Miss Ruby Muir, Bountiful; chaplain, Miss Bessie Law, Delta; national committeewoman, Mrs. Alice Collins, Col-lins, Ogden (1928 state president); alternate national committeewoman, committeewo-man, Mrs. Minnie Goff, Salt Lake City; national convention delegates, Mrs. Mary Alice Collins, Ogden: Mrs. J. A. Howells, Ogden; Mrs. L. R. Edwards, Provo; Mrs. D. Orlo Allen, Provo; Mrs. J. R. Smith, Ogden; Og-den; Mrs. Biliings, Price. |
