Show Milan ZMetcalf Weds Girl In California : is Pa?i Celebration Of Many Holidays During New Year The new year of 1942 will roll in Wednesday night on the stroke of 12 with the usual number of holidays holi-days and three "jinx" , days. Included In-cluded in the calendar are three "Friday the 13ths," in February, March and November. President Roosevelt will celebrate his birthday, Friday, January 30. The following month will call for the observance of the birthdays of two previous Presidents. Lincoln's birthday anniversary will fall on Thursday, February 12, and Washington's Wash-ington's on Sunday, February 22. St. Valentine's day will be Saturday, Satur-day, February 14. Ash Wednesday, February 18, will mark the beginning of Lent. St. Patrick's day, March 17, comes on Tuesday. Saturday, March 21, will bring a welcome visitor spring. April Fool's day, the first of April, will fall on Wednesday. Army day, April 6, commemorating the day the United States entered the World war, will fall on Monday. Pan American day will be observed Tuesday, April 14. Palm Sunday falls on March 29, to be followed on April 3 by Good Friday and on V - Announcement is made of the recent marriage of Milan Metcalf, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Metcalf of this city, and Miss Catherine Weinhurst of Burbank, Cal., which took place at Burbank. Milan has been employed at the Vega aircraft factory near Burbank, Bur-bank, for the past five 5-ears, going there shortly after graduation from the local high school. The couple are making their home at Burbank. Bur-bank. FRIENDS ENJOYED A NEW YEAR PARTY on Wednesday night, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. J. Loveridge. Progressive games and a midnight luncheon were featured with the following in attendance: Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Childs, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Peterson, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Beardall, Mrs. Etta Thorpe, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Weight, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Boyer, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Weight, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Carter, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Weight, Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Child, Mr. and Mrs. Alex Long, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Cherrington, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sanford, and the host and hostess. A NEW YEAR'S PARTY WAS GIA'EN WEDNESDAY evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. V. Crandall, with approximately approxi-mately two dozen guests in attendance. atten-dance. A delicious supper and progressive pro-gressive games featured the occasion, oc-casion, and the group watched the old year out and the new year in. In attendance were Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Clyde, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Clyde, Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Weight, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Condie, Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Eggertsen, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Eddington, Dr. and Mrs. George A. Anderson, Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Bird, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Nelson, Mr. and Mrs. S. L. Mendenhall, and Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Baxter. A PARTY WAS GIVEN FOR FRIENDS SATURDAY evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lee Davis, with Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Cherrington as assisting host and hostess. The group enjoyed a delicious luncheon and games, with the following fol-lowing in attendance: Mr. and Mrs. Alex Long, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sanford, Mr. and Mrs. T. E. Child, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Weight, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Carter, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Weight, Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Boyer, Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Weight, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Beardall, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Peterson, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Child, Mrs. Etta Thorpe, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cherrington of Grace, Ida., and the host and hostess. April 5 by Easter Sunday. Child Health day falls on Friday, May 1. May 10, the second Sunday of the month, marks the observance of Mother's day. Memorial day, May 30 the occasion of the Indianapolis Indian-apolis automobile race will fall on Saturday. Flag day comes on Sunday, June 14. The first day of summer and the longest day of the year will be Monday, Mon-day, June 22. With a bang the entire en-tire nation will greet the first Saturday Satur-day in July the glorious Fourth. Labor day comes on Monday, September Sep-tember 7. Autumn will mark the end of summer on Wednesday, September Sep-tember 23. Halloween October 31 will be on Saturday, and Armistice Armi-stice day, November 11, on Wednesday. Wednes-day. Thanksgiving will be November Novem-ber 19. This will be the last year it is observed on the third Thursday Thurs-day of November. Then comes Christmas on Friday to be followed a week later by 1943. A GROUP OF FRIENDS HELD A GET-TOGETHER on Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Malinda Sumsion and Mrs. Rea Straw. A delightful time was spent with reminiscing and in conclusion con-clusion a delicious "pot luck" supper sup-per was enjoyed. |
