My interest was piqued when I heard that therejwas going to be a UFO meeting in the nearby town of Dublin. On a whim I suggested to my family that we go. My. idea was met with mixed-responses. My wife, who is always ready for an adventure, was aU for it. My daughter however, absolutely did not like the idea. In fact, she put up quite a protest. So being the considerate father that I am, we went anyway. There were probably ten-plus TV stations represented, rep-resented, as weU as a number num-ber of newspapers. By the way, that evening my family, fam-ily, and yours truly were on the evening news. How about that for a family memory? Later, I thought about all the different kinds of people that were there. There were young and old, weU dressed, and not so well dressed, believers and skeptics, humans, and a couple of aliens. I think there were even a couple Michael Peterson, son of Suzanne Peterson of SpringviUe and the late Ray Dean Peterson, has returned home after serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Kennewick, Washington, Spanish speaking. He will speak in church on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Hobble Creek Fifth Ward, 1440 E. 900 South, SpringviUe. Jeffery Louis Snow, son of Bob and Liz Snow of Mapleton, has returned home after serving a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Dallas, Texas. He will speak in church on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008 at 11 a.m. in the Mapleton 15th Ward, 1200 N. 1000 West. He is the grandson of MaryEllen Snow of Mapleton and the late Tony Snow and Louis and Emily Cook of St George. j: S I H 1 ' I 4 . . rn 1 trssr.nai? of undercover Federal agents taking pictures, and writing down Ucense plate numbers. Without a doubt, most of the times that I make my children go somewhere with us, even when they protest, they later end up having a good time. The trip to Dublin was no different. dif-ferent. My daughter had a great time, and walked away with a UFO t-shirt to boot. The scripture states "train a child in the way that he should go, and when he is old he wiU not turn from it".. The idea here is that, as parents, we have a responsibility to train our children. One area of training that I would like to present today has to do with doing things as a family. fam-ily. The standard definition for UFO is "unidentified flying object". Just for fun let's change the definition of UFO to "unidentified family outing", and "unidentified "un-identified family obsession". obses-sion". The unidentified family outing works something like this. Get your kids out of bed early one morning, put them in the car and start to drive. Don't forget to pack an ice chest. You can have a destination in mind, or not. On the way, look for things to do. The purpose of this is not the destination, but the jour Zack Huffaker, son of Mel and Dru Huffaker, recenty left to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Daejeon, Korea. He is a member of the Mapleton 16th Ward and the grandson of Mel and Grace Huffaker of Mapleton. ) ' ' V ' Looking for a Great Garage $H r ?, i', i ' l hr LJ L4 nr DOOR SYSTEM Yam! ilirt HI II I li t J-"-""- 1932 N. The unknown aspect of your outing creates a f eeling of expectancy. As you are driving you will encounter a number of things that say, "Stop and spend some time". Take the time to enjoy the moment. You may bump into a parade, community festival, flea market, state park, paddle boat ride, etc. The list is unending. Unidentified family obsession ob-session has to do with finding hobbies, and activities ac-tivities that you, and your children can participate in together. Some of my . fondest memories of childhood child-hood are the times that my dad took our family arrowhead hunting. As a result I developed a love for Native American artifacts arti-facts and history, as weU as spending time in nature. To this day my dad and I share these interests. Warning: be aware of "Unidentified Family Objections". Ob-jections". If you don't have a pattern of spending time with your children they may resist your attempts to go places with them. Don't lose heart. This is about training your child to be a participant in family fam-ily activities. By intentionally intention-ally spending quaUty time with our children, we can form close bonds, as weU as common interests that will last a lifetime. - wo"' Steven Nelson, son of DeVon and Pat Nelson of Mapleton, has been called to serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Vina del Mar, Chili.
