Show Funeral Services Held Monday for Dr. N. H. Packard Many relatives and friends attended at-tended funeral services Monday afternoon at the Berg Mortuary Chapel in Provo, for Dr. Nephi H. Packard, 88, prominent retired dentist and former mayor of Springville, who died at an Ogden hospital last Friday morning following fol-lowing a brief illness. Burial was in the Springville City Cemetery. Dr. Packard was born in this city, July 15, 1864, a son of Nephi and Elizabeth Clausas Packard. He began his practice of dentistry den-tistry after his graduation from Brigham Young University, practicing prac-ticing in Springville for many years and for about two years in Salt Lake City before moving to Ogden in 1916. He practiced in . Ogden until his retirement in 1944. His first license was issued by the Utah Territorial Board and his practice during the first 15 years was in Utah Territory. At the time of his retirement he was the oldest' practicing dentist in the state. He was presented with a watch by the Utah State Dental Assn. at the time of his 59th anniversary an-niversary of dental practice. While residing in Springville, Dr. Packard was active in civic affairs, serving as mayor. He also served many years as a trustee to the Nebo School District Board and was one of the originators of the famous Springville Art show movement. An active member of the LDS Church, he served as counselor in the Springville Second ward bishopric bish-opric for 25 years. At the time of his death, he was a high priest in the LDS Lake view Ward. Pre viously he had been active in the Ogden Eighteenth and Twenty-sixth Twenty-sixth wards. On November 18, 1885, he married mar-ried Clara Jane Sanford in the Logan LDS Temple. Mrs. Packard died Nov. 7, 1948, in Ogden. The family formerly resided at 2936 Washington Blvd., Ogden. Surviving are three sons and four daughters: Dr. R. M. Packard, Pack-ard, Idaho Falls, Ida.; W. S. Packard, Pack-ard, Twin Falls, Ida.; Ida C. Pack-ard, Pack-ard, Astoria, Ore.; Mrs. A. G. (Floss) Johnson, Springville; Mrs. C. I. (Marell) Carter, Riverside, Calif.; Mrs. L. B. (Rhea) Tackett, Provo; Mrs. W. Ed. (Clara) White of Roy. There are also 15 grandchildren, grand-children, 21 grealt grandchildren; two brothers and one sister, George and Sophia Packard, Salt Lake City and Otto Packard, Santa Ana, Calif. |
