Hanson, well known musician and composer, has has been added to the faculty of the Brlgham Young university for the summer session, according to Hugh M. Woodward, dean of the school. Professor Hanson, according to Dean Woodward, will be in charge of the music of the school since Florence Jepperson Madsen, head of the department will be on a leave of absence, during the summer quarter. quar-ter. "The addition of Professor Hanson Han-son to the music department for the summer pleases me immensely," Dean Woodward said. Professor Pro-fessor Hanson is a great pianist as well as a! splendid conductor and composer. He is the composer of two operas and a great many songs of worth. "Besides being a thorough musician, musi-cian, Professor Hanson has the gift of conducting community singing. We shall look forward to lively times in music." Professor Hanson is well knowTa in music circles for his work with Ute Indian music and dances. He is the composer of two operas based on Indian' traditions, "The Sun Dance Opera," and "The Bear Danco Opera." It was a song number num-ber from one of these operas that recently won for him second prize in an international song contest in which the songs were to1 be based upon native folk lore. |
