Around 2,500 of those students will be attending the new Maple Mountain High School. Maple Mountain has been planned for three years. It is a mixture of all the surrounding areas that are coming together." Many students will be making the move from Spanish Fork High School, as well as Springville High School to attend Maple Mountain High School. "I believe that seniors and [other students] are looking for new opportunities that come with a new school, as well as starting new family traditions," said Ashton. Students will find a standard set of classes, and a few new ones, including an AP music theory class as well as a music composition class. Maple Mountain is also having many physical education classes including yoga, pilates and a lifestyle fitness class. "We want to teach students things that can help them with a healthy lifestyle," said Ashton. Each of the classes have state of the art equipment including audio enhancement , over head projectors, document camera, as well as a microphone. The teacher will be able to control everything from the front of the classroom. The school also has computer labs with all new equipment as well as a music composition class room outfitted with eighteen computers and keyboards where students can create and record their own music. Maple Mountain is also trying a new thing with classroom text books. Each book with be outfitted with a barcode and students can check out text books when they need to take them home. Each class will have their own set of books, but no one will take a book home all school year. "This new system will allow for us to keep better track of the books," said Ashton.
