There and Back Again Shirlene Ottesen Your laugh for the week: During avisittoamental facility, a visitor asked the director what the criterion was that defined whether or not a patient should be institutionalized. "Well," said the director, '\ve fill up a bathtub, then offer a teaspoon, a teacup and a bucket and ask the patient to empty the bathtub" "Oh, I understand,1' said the visitor. "A normal person would use the bucket because it's the biggest." "No", said the director. "A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want a bed near the window?" A reprinting of the Palmyra History is ready to so to press and if you, or anyone you know, would be interested in ordering a copy, it isn't too late. You can call me at 798-6600 or you can go or call J-Mart Publishing on Main Street and order one there. The book is about 360 pages and packed with histories and information about the early settlers of this community. The price of the book is $45.00, and I know that's a lot of money, but prices have gone up along with everything else. You can't go into a book store and buy this book, and as far as I know, this is the last printing. The book will have a hard cover and for anyone who had ancestors who came here in the mid-1850's, 1 think you will learn to appreciate what these people did for all of us who are living here now. The beginning of Palmyra started only four years after; the pioneers came into the Salt Lake Valley. A branch of the church was organized on December 21, 1851 with William Pace as the bishop. The site for this settlement was chosen by Apostle George A. Smith and he wrote the following about this location to the Millennial/Star: "\ have sought out the location for the city of Palmyra on the Spanish Fork River, Utah County, and procured the survey of 360 lots, containing one hundred rods each; a temple square of thirteen acres, and four school squares of two and a half acres each. The public squarecommands a view of all the settlements in Utah Valley and is one of the most delightful spots in the mountains" (Brigham Young, the Colonizer page 232). And I agree with Apostle Smith, it is one of the most del ightful spots to call home and it has been one of my greatest blessings to live here. So if you are interested, call as soon as you can. By pre-ordering it gives us an idea of how many books to print. We don't want to print too many, but we certainly want to print enough. Pre-payment is not required and when the books are ready, you may pick them up at the J-Mart office. There will be an extra charge for postage on books that have to be mailed. -I know we are all looking forward to some warm weather and hopefully it will come soon. It has been a good winter with lots of snow in the mountains, giving the promise of an adequate water supply, but now we are looking forward to another season of the year: ^ • Star * Treatment South yaCCey "Estates Luxurious Townhomes in Salem starting at Spa in Utah : Utah Valley's $179,000 Tours Cupcakery Choose from our many options: • Fully Landscaped • Stucco and stone exterior • Solid surface counter tops and surrounds • Jetted tubs in Master bath • Attached garages • Raised panel cabinets • Many options • Several floor plans RELAX Model now open!
