Show i -N E W S- Spanish Fork Covering what matters most Characterizing my face cards WEDNESDAY, JUNE 27, 2007 - A3 *&$.:.mmi&& All That Jaxx Charla Zeeman I confess. I play with face cards and I enjoy it. One of my favorite past times with face cards is vegging in front of the computer playing Solitaire for hours. The first few times I played the game, I had to use the cheat button where all the cards that you could pile on would turn a dark gray color. Eventually I learned to count and could play the game. That's when the hours in front of the computer began. Once you play a game for that long, you start developing personalities for the card numbers and royalty. The ace is supreme. It never has to go on the bottom of a stack. It goes straight to the top and earns you points. I love the ace and it loves me. The ace always wants the two to be stacked on her because she doesn't want to be lonely. The king has the personality of an overruling husband. His wife, the queen, loves him but is a timid wife and does whatever he tells her to. Their son, Jack, loves his mom and believes that the king is just a stupid man. Number ten is like the hot babe you see at the beach. He has mild interest in nine's looks, but there's not enough to nine for him to really love her. Nine is obsessed with ten. She and her best friend, Eight, figure out different ways to get number ten to fall in love with her. Seven is an egotistical young man. He likes six the same way that Gaston likes Belle in Beauty and the Beast. Six felt bad for Seven and Courtesy photo CLOVERS: A normal king of clovers in a card deck. decided that she'd take care of him and get him out of his scrapes. Number five loves number more than the ocean loves the shore, but since she is married, he can never have her. He lives alone in his cottage in the forest and spends his time hoping to see number six. Number four, three and two are offspring of Seven and Six. While number six is busy getting number seven out of his ego trouble, Four takes care of Three and because of this, number three adores him. She in turn helps out the youngest which is number two. Number two likes Ace the best though because together they are not lonely. Isn't it amazing how a child's imagination can stick with them for so many years? I always find rnyself thinking how I hope1 number six doesn't connect with number seven, but I'd let them for the sake of me winning the game. Whenever I see a king, I roll my eyes and feel bad for the queen when I stack them up. It's interesting how thoughts and imagination can become so real. Try: didn't start out wanting to learn to sing, I just liked the sounds of the music. I turned 60 and decided it was time to try playing the guitar. I settled for a ukelele because I couldn't afford a guitar if I couldn't play. I taught myself to play chords on it and later moved onto the guitar. I'm still learning. This morning I began thinking of all the things I might have been able to do if I had chosen to try. I may have been a professional of some sort, a doctor or lawyer. I chose a different area for my education. I could have been a straight "A" student in college if I had tried. I could have been in the chorus in high school if I had put forth the effot. I did try sports and failed miserably, but at least I took a chance. I could have been a CPA, but I chose marriage instead of another year in school. I could have been a better cook, if I had endeavored to. The list goes on and on. I have a friend who is working for NASA because she worked hard. Members of my high school graduating class have gone way beyond what we ever thought they could do because they buckled down and tried. The put in the work to succeed. But they started by trying. I taught myself to write somewhere along the way, with encouragement from Grandpa and a college professor and, of course, I can't forget the patient help from several editors along the way. I could be a better writer, if I tried, took classes, increased myfieldof knowledge and interests and really applied myself. The point of all this is if there is interest, go for it, you may be able to succeed, but "you'll never know, if you don't try." LARRY D. His request was only partially granted. The Captain then asked if he could have a group of army band members play a funeral dirge for his son. The request was turned down since the soldier was a Confederate, but out of respect for the father, they agreed to give him one musician. The Captain chose a bugler. He asked the bugler to play a series of musical notes he found on a piece of paper in the pocket of the dead youth's uniform. This wish was granted. Another really good drain cleaning recipe is to put about a cup of baking soda in the drain and then pour about a cup or more of white vinegar to activate the soda (remember the school volcano experiments?) Do this about once a month and it will help your drains to stay clean and fresh smelling. I have used both of these recipes, but I prefer the second one because I don't have to keep anything mixed — I'm a bit of a minimalist, a conserver of energy. 4 Seat Airplane Payson Fruit Growers DA40 G1000 Avionics Now available First Time Ever at the Springville-Spanish Fork Airport st 21 Century Glass Cockpit" DA40 Garmin 1000 Avionics Available for Flight Instruction & Airplane Rental Diamond FLIGHT CBNTBR of Spanish Fork, tC (801) 471-1304 www.DFCPilot.com HELP WANTED We are now accepting applications for summer 2007 Tart Cherry Processing.
