Show PAGE 24 THE THUNDERBIRD SUSC TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 25, 1990 Drill team tryouts set BY KRISTIE ELIASON Tryouts for the Waukeenyans, SUSCs drill team, are scheduled for Sept. 26 and 27. Terry Lauterbach, Waukeenyan director, will choose 16 Waukeenyan members this year. A preliminary meeting will be at 4 p.m., Sept. 26 in the Physical Education Building dance studio. At the meeting, prospective Waukeenyans will learn a dance routine, marching skills and a kick routine. Tryouts will be Sept. dance 27, those interested must bring a prepared routine of their own. According to the Waukeenyan membership rules, the team must perform at least 10 times each year at various events including football and basketball games. The drill team practices for two hours each day during fall and winter quarters and receive two hours of college credit per quarter. This year the team will travel to the University of San Diego to perform at the SUSC vs. USD mens basketball game. Our main focus is on dance. We do jazz and funky routines as well as novelty and kick routines, Lauterbach said. Any questions regarding the Waukeenyans or their tryouts should be directed to her at Lauterbach said SUSCs dance team has improved every year since she took over six years ago, and she expects this year to be one of its best. With the addition of an assistant director, we will be able to be even more organized and have our routines really polished, she added. A highlight for the day includes a new feature of Welcome Week, the Choose a Major Fair on the Lower Quad from 3 to 7 p.m. Students will have the opportunity to talk with experienced upperclassmen about selecting a major. Students will also have plenty of opportunity during the week to join clubs, fraternities and sororities. Club Rush will be today through Friday, Sept. 28, on the Student Center patio from 6 p.m. Also, on Friday there will be a Greek Rush Orientation from p.m. in the Student Center Zion Conference Rooms A and B. Attendance at the information meeting is mandatory for all greek rushees. It wont be all work and orientations, though. A movie is scheduled at Fiddlers Canyon Theater Saturday, Sept. 29, at midnight. Admission is $2.50. A free welcome back dance is slated for tonight on the Lower Quad beginning at 9 p.m. and is sponsored by ASSUSC and KJQ Radio, and will include food, volleyball and other games. The Starlight Club has a nightclub atmosphere with comedians and other live entertainment, waiters and drinks and snacks. Admission is $3 for singles and $5 for couples.
