Ph In Ar elph I a, Pa., April 16. Samuel Jackson, the most famous pyrotechnist of the country, is dead. Jackson's face showed the marks of many exjlosions. Twelve of his establishments have been wrecked, twice with woeful fatal-iiy. fatal-iiy. He began the manufacture of fireworks in this city in 1837, continuing in the. business until 1S87, from which time he devoted himself him-self to the manufacture of danger signals for railroads. He was famous for the artistic beauty of his pyrotechnic displays and conM'v.ed exhibitions exhi-bitions in every large city of North and South America. He managed the magnificent magnifi-cent display at the centennial. His inventions include a cartridge widely used dnring the civil war. In 1862 an explosion at his cartridge factory fac-tory iu this city killed eighteen men, and ten years ago another at the Chester danger signal sig-nal plant killed twenty men.
