The committee appropriated $196,614 for special railroad facilities to defray the expenses of the fast mail to connect with West Indian ships at Tunipa, i la. The amount of the compensation allowed to all land grants and subsidized railroads is lixed at 50 per cent of the usual contract price. The belief prevails among many senators that the house cut on the appropriations for pensions are below the absolute requirements require-ments of the law and it is probable that the appropriation will he s iled several million w hen returned into llie house by the senate. The commissioner ou submitting his estim ates to congress of the amount of money required to pa.) the pension during ttie next fiscal year placed the sum oi $147,000,000. Tee bouse appropriations appro-priations committee cut $13,000,000 from this estimate. This action indicates that an agreement has been reached between the United States and Great Britain in regard to pelagic sealing in the Bering sea. Senator John W. Daniel of Vermont Monday Mon-day introduced in the senate an amendment to the naval appropriation bill, appropriating appropriat-ing $300,000 for expenses of the reviews and entertainment of the otllcial guests of the nation who will accompany the foreign fleets at the international naval review in Hampton roads and New York in April, 1893. It is believed that the presidents of several American republics and tin? reigning presidents presi-dents of some of the European nations w ill attend with the fleet. The house committee on commerce has decided to report favorably the bill providing that nothing in the interstate commerce act shall prevent the issuance of joint interchangeable inter-changeable 5000-mile tickets, with special privileges as to the amount of free baggaue which may be carried under such mileage tickets not to exceed 250 pounds. The house committee on public buildings has presented favorable reports on the following fol-lowing new gevernmcnt buildings to be erected: Spokane Fails, Wash.; Boise City, Idaho; Helena, Mont., and Cheyenne, Wyo.
