Show Fourth Precinct The scene at this precinct resembled a country fair on a small scale There were four tents up two Democratic one Liberal I and one Republican Each was gaily emblazoned em-blazoned with the party sign and from one hundred to two hundred men and boys with a dozen decorated vehicles made of the surroundings a most animated and lively spectacle The vote was exceedingly heavy and before 10 oclock tho total number num-ber of ballots deposited ran close t that cast in tho school election last month At 330 it had gone 10 over a total of 80 All parties were well organized and constant con-stant lists were furnished from the inside t the runners on the out and it IB safe to say that every voter in the prebinct was hauled out or made t give reason for not voting Deputy marshals for the first time in recent history not devoted body and breeches to Liberals police and deputy sheriffs were around In plentiful numbers There were numerous challenges and the only thing of a disagreeable nature was the conduct of that Noble Democrat Judge Ball who at poll 1 seemed inclined to run things much after the fashion of Czar Reed At the other polling places every thing went off pleasantly Ball was M precipitate at times that when I tr Bywater Democratic challenger interposed an objection Ball was disposed t give no time t have the matter sifted and he bad to be sharply remonstrated with by the minority judge and Inspector R W Young Ono flagrant case was that of Penitentiary Guard Hoge Ho was steered in like a lamb by bis brother Judge Hoge who undertook to respond re-spond to the questions asked for him and to ride over the cnallenge completely Guard Hoge was challenged on the ground that he aid not live in the precinct ho being a penitentiary employee he claimed his homo was with his brother but did not give the number of his brothers house when asked for 1t Bal and the other Liberal judge took his vote in spite of the objection of the other judge L R Wells and a deputy sheriff promptly placed him under arrest The judge who was palo with excitement at the outrage bailed him There other arrest early hi out was one arret in the daya man named Thana Woolsey tried to vote was shown to live in North Salt Lake and va hustled off to jaiL |
