Show Indiana Democratic State Convention INDIANAPOLIS Ind Aug 25The Indiana Democratic state convention met today ExGovernor Gray presiding A platform was adopted denouncing Dudley r and alleging that Harrison and Morton carried the state in 1SSS by fraud I says The electoral vote of Indiana was obtained lor Harrison and Morton by the most flagrant crimes against the ballot box ever perpetrated in an American commonwealth common-wealth these crimes were committed under the direct auspices of William Wade Dudley then and now treasurer of the national Republican committee and by the procurement and cannivance of the Republican Re-publican leaders in this state and the nationa administration of Benjamin Harrison Har-rison has made itself an accessory after the fact t those crimes by shielding the criminals crimi-nals from punishment and even by reward ine them for their knavery and that the brazen prostitution of the machinery of the federal court for the district of Indi its and attorne ana by it judge attorney to the service and protection of conspirators conspir-ators against the suffrage constitutes the most infamous chanter in the judicial annals an-nals of the republic We denounce the tariff monopolists for their efforts t perpetuate per-petuate themselves in power by measures Inconsistent and contrary t good morals We find in the force election bill the bill creating rotten borough states and the McKinley tariff bill the open manifestation of a gigantic conspiracy of the minority t oppress a groaning people with additional burdens of taxation for private benefits We denounce the silver bill socalled recently enacted as an ignominious surrender sur-render to the money power It perpetuates th demonetization of silver and the single gold standard whereas tho interests of the people require the complete remonetization of silver and its restoration to a perfect equality with gold in our coinage We demand de-mand the free and unrestricted coinage of silver upon the basis existing prior t 1873 We are in favor as we always have been of just and liberal pension system and denounce the Republican party for making pledges to the veterans of 1SSS which have not been redeemedand even are not intended t be redeemed and we warn them against further fur-ther attempts at deception from the same quarter Wo rejoice at the evidence of an awakening of the farmers of the country to the necessity for organized efforts t better their own condition and protect themselves against unjust legislation and a oppressive administration Wo demand legislation prohibiting aliens from acquiring lands in America andytor the forfeiture of the titles t 2074 200acres of our public lands now held by them themWe We favor the election of United States Senators by the people The other resolutions as follows Wo applaud theeighthour law the law to prevent blacklisting the law prohibiting pro-hibiting pluck me stores the law for the protection of coal miners and the law to prevention of the importation of Pinkerton Pinker-ton detectives and the repeal of the Republican Re-publican intimidation law of 1SS1 as manifestations mani-festations of the steadfast friendship of the Democratic party to the workingmen We point to these laws as evidence tha friendship t American labor is no confined to words alone Wo denounc the employment of Pinkertons men by the 7 railroad corporations of the New York Central in the pending pend-ing contest with its employees and hold it t bo the duty of the state and I local onicers everywhere to prevent such an usurpationby capitaljof the police power of the state We are in favor of arbitration arbitra-tion as the only just and fair method of settling set-tling labor controversies and we demand of the next legislature the passage of a law creating a permanent tribunal of arbitration arbi-tration for that purpose We insist that labor has as good a right to organize in selfprotection as capital and that labor organizations should be placed on a perfect equality before the law with organizations of capital known as corporations corpor-ations On the second ballot Clause Matthews a farmer of Vermillion county was nominated nomi-nated for secretary of state James 1 Mitchell was chosen by acclamation to succeed him self as justice of the supreme court The ticket was completed a follows J O Henderson editor of tho Kokomo Dispatch auditor of the state Albert Call of Indianapolis Indian-apolis treasurer A Green Smith of North Vernon attorneygeneral A M Sweeney of Dubois clerk of the supreme court Adjourned |
