this songster it has disdained all allurements until within the last few days Yesterday however the owner of this r valuable property capitulated and was f brought to terms through the efforts oft of-t C W Miles and now Mercur will soon witness the thorough and scientific development de-velopment of this valuable group The Song Bird group of three fractions frac-tions embracing thirtynine acres con-sidering several propositions by which to increase their supply The Beck Is clso curtailed in the quantity of this important article at their rom plant 1 A system of reservoirs to retain tlhe summer floods would no doubt help out this problem somewhat In case of s emergencies like the present Superintendent Honk Smith in complY with Manager Allen of the CentennialEureka came out from the Superintendent Smith has a warm piice in the hearts of the people or Eureka wftere he Is well known and appreciated as miner legislator and 1 geailal citizen During the week some work has been done in Smith the present superintendent su-perintendent of the Centennial when he represented this district in the territorial ter-ritorial legislature and it is a good one It is currenily reported that the May Day Mining company are contemplating contemplat-ing putting up a power plant with which to operate machine drills in the development of that property This would appear the most economical plan that could be devised in a proposition prop-osition of that kind where time certainly I cer-tainly is money It is conceded on > > all sides that it is simply a question of the time consumed in find of the district Four years ag F E King an old resident of Marysvale found a chunk of gold float in the Horse Heaven tim ber that assayed a high as 162000 t the lon Mr King was offered 250 for the piece of ore which offer he refused nd since then this locality ha been prospected day after day for the ledge but without success A few days ago however 7Ir Ferris has he believes discovered the vein from which this float came and has located lo-cated the same under the name of the ce St Gabriel Associated with him in the ownership of thiy promising property are Ammon Hunt W R Johnson Murray Kesler and Jerry Dennis I The St Gabriel is located just outside of Horse Heaven timber line and on the south side of the peak at the head of the north fork of Cottonwood creek The formation is a contact between porphyry and granite and it is believed ha this is a twin sister to the Dalton lode On the 20th of July Mr Ferris located the Silver King lode on Mansfield Hill and now ha a carload of sylvanite ore on the dump that from all appearances appear-ances is very rich in gold Marysvale is rapidly developing into a rich gold camp and will make a great showing within a year or two N PHOTOGRAPHING MOUVT NEBO Large Yield of Wheat mud Outs Rapid Growth of Black Bass Mr F I Munson returned yesterday from a vigil to Mt Ncbo where he had been taking some photographs for tell te-ll Nebo and Irrigation company for use in his lectures on Utah which evil e-vil shortly commence to give in eastern cities This irrigation system was selected se-lected as being one of the mom perfect In the state because it has many features fea-tures uncommon to oilier enterprise Some very beautiful views were secured ver vew3 among them being a photograph of the companys immense reservoir with Mt Nebo in the background views of the bacgund vews flume and pipe line showing the diffi cult engineering required to bring the water down the canyon and aleb severn sev-ern views of the newly irrigated land showing the different crops The Mt Nebo Irrigation company has been singularly successful this yea all the crops raised under the new canals nals when it is taken into consideration that his1 time last year the land w covered with sage bruiJi and this is the first year that the land has been broken upAll kinds of grain such a lucern corn melons sugar beets and differ ent kinds of garden truck have been raised this year and in every case the exceeded > tions Wheat yield ha expectations lVeat yielded a high as fiftyeight bushels to the acre and one large field of oats averaged over eighty bushels to the acre This country is being settled up very rapidly with eastern people and it will not be a great while until all the southern south-ern end of Utah valley under the company com-pany canals will be as thickly settled set-tled a the eastern part of the county round Provo and Sprmsville Mention was made some time ago in these columns that 100 large black bass had been placed in the ML Nebo reservoir reser-voir early last spring The rapidity wiitih which they have multiplied since that time has been very surprising for it is now said that they can be seen in all parts of the reservoir by the thousand Most of them have grown to be five or six inches long and many of them will weigh half a pound Near the outlet of the reservoir where the water is deeper they are so thick that the water is fairly black with them When they get a year or two older this will be a veritable fishermans dise veritble fishemas para diseThis This year has been the driest known for many years in the central part of of the state but the Mt Nebo company cmpany has had plenty of water and although the irrigation sean has now about closed there still remains in ulie res ervior enough water for about 5000 acres of land which will be kept over for next season One prominent feature of this enterprise enter-prise is that in addition to having addiion lving nu morons other advantages such vatage The South Swansea will be the next mine in that locality to come to the front as it has to sink only about 60 feet more in order to get down to the fine ore body on which the Swansea is now working There I are other mines near Silver City that will soon be paying producers and I must say that that end o Tintic district dis-trict i strictly in it The Mono mine in Dry canyon Ophir district was sold under execution a few days ago to H L Driver of this city for the sum of 350 The Mono was at one time considered a one of the greatest producing mines in Utah The ore was horn silver in character and so and rich that pure it could be whittled like lead or stamped with a brand a easily as if it had been bullion instead of ore The Mono has produced its thousands or its millions and is still a most valuable piece of property The engine steel cable and buildings are worth all of 4000 or 5000 and ilr Driver got a snap when he bought it in for 350 Foreman Biddlecome who has charge of the being done by leasers in the Spanish mine which is port of the Niagara group I is the intention of the company however t put up a steam hoiSt and resume sinking sink-ing in the Spanish shaft on the ore body until the level of the Niagara tunnel is reached i the vein continues to this depth The lessees of the Spanish Span-ish have been taking out a good deal o ore from this ledge which is from ten to twelve feet between walls the value of which ranged from 20 to 25 a ton C H Schue is working six men on his L Cigale group of claims in the western foothills in Camp Floyd mining min-ing district The ledge on the surface on this ground assays from 51 to 11S in gold to the ton but in order to thoroughly develop the mine Mr Schue has sunk a 150foot shaft some distance from the vein and i now crosscutting to the ore body which he expects to encounter within fifty feet more The L Cigale is on the Omaha ledge and is located between this property and the Valley View group The latter is owned by Omaha capitalists who have a most excellent showing and are pushing developments with a good force of men The Omaha which is considered as one of the best prospects on the slope is lying idle as the management cannot agree as to the course of procedure C H Wilbur general manager of the Golden Eagle mine in Central mining district Humboldt county Nevada has just returned from the west and when seen by a Herald representative was in excellent spirits over the future outlook out-look for the property When Mr Wil bur left the Golden Eagle the new tunnel tun-nel had been driven 200 feet on a body of ore averaging from three to four feet in width and which assays about 20 in gold and 25 ounces in silver to the ton which makes 0 good milling proposition There are stratas in the ledge however Chat run much higher than this and two carloads of high grade ore will soon be placed on the Salt Lake market On the strength of o strengh the promising condition of the mine the company will erect a mill this fall for the treatment of its secondclass tretent is ores The Herald made mention yesterday of the accidental discovery of a mineral bearing ledge in West Mountain di trict while enjoying the excitement of a chicken hunt Some men with a pick and drill with no other company thaI a mountain canary will prospect pros-pect in the hills all summer without finding anything all of which goes to show that no one is equal to a tenderfoot tender-foot for luck especially if he is out on r chicken hunting expedition and that this is so is proven by the fact that yesterday The Herald was informed formed that another chicken hunter a boy this time had jut found a strong ledge of ore not far from this city while out after the feathered tribe and it is said that the ore shows free gold in abundance Hunting should prove both pleasant and profitable if the above results are always obtained and The Herald is of the opinion that henceforth the nimrod had best taken take-n prospectors pick along with him asa as-a important part of his equipment |
