triUKer JUU1KUI Other Events The officers and ladies call at the barracks bar-racks out at Fort Douglas last night was one of the most charming affairs of the season Everybody knows how fascinating fascinat-ing a full dress uniform is to a woman and what an incentive it affords her to be just as charming as she can be Small wonder then that everyboy was pleased because there were enough officers wives to make the civilians forget the decreased appreciation apprecia-tion of their charms on account of their severely plain black dress There was only onetiny little drawback The amusement hal in which the dance was given is too small for the purpose The hall itself however is a bijou and was beautifully decorated the flags of the nation na-tion predominatinl in festoons and the always al-ways beautiful national colors adding a I brightness and appropriateness that was simply perfect The orchestra which was placed upon tho stage maae lovely music and during dur-ing the intermissions many 1 couple strolled out in the balcony where beneath the far away stars the low toned whispers spoke of the story of congenial spirits I telling and listening to those little impulses im-pulses that find such ready birth at a military ball Soldiers always Know how to make themselves so pleasant to women and women never fail in appreciation of it With nil thn nppnssnrips nf UCCUHlUIl t uccutunes UCCUtlI and surroundings music starlight and out in the distance the hills clad in their white garment Fort Douglass succeeded in establishing in the minds of those who were present a pleasant memory that will linger a longtime Then after the dance came the supper such a delicious menu Everything was tastefully arranged well served and the cusine intrinsically enjoyable I was served in the club house which is really the nicest place at the barracks and just as lovely as it can be COSTUMES Among the ladies whose costumes were noted were those of Mrs C S Varian who wore a beautiful gown of
