Show DOWN ON THE CHINAMAN. California Commences the Work in Earnest and Notifies John He ?lust Skip. Saobamento, March 11 The State Anti-Chinese Anti-Chinese Convention now in session adopted the following resolution. "That no man now -directly employing or patronizing the Chinese be plaoed on the Committee of Resolutions." The stringency of this resolution nearly created a difficulty, as owing to the absence of white labor all the employers in California Cali-fornia have been dependent on Chinese labor. The good sense of the Chinamen prevented trouble, and all the members of the committee, representing the best and most influential interests of the Pacifio Coast, were accepted. A committee was appointed to prepare a memorial to Congress, setting forth the evils from which the Paoifio Coast was suffering by reason of Chinese laborers. The memorial was presented this evening. It is a long document embracing about ten thousand words and is a review of the whole Chinese question from its earliest incipiency to the present moment. After the adoption of the memorial resolutions reso-lutions were offered and adopted. They opposed op-posed violence, advooated an uncompromising uncompromis-ing boycott, requested the appointment of a committee to solicit subscriptions to hire ships to deport the Chinese, requested all Congressmen to discharge Chinese, demanded demand-ed that the Chinese be cut off from the privileges enjoyed by citizens, requested Congress to abrogate the Hawaiian treaty, and demanded the removal of the Chinese Six Companies. Several other resolutions of a similar tenor were offered. Resolved, That we demand that the Government Gov-ernment of the United States take immediate immedi-ate steps to prohibit absolutely these Chinese Chi-nese invasions. Resolved, That to encourage the early removal re-moval of the Chinese, we accept the suggestion sug-gestion of the Constitution of California, which says that no Chinese shall ever be employed upon any work of the State, except ex-cept in the punishment of crime. " aesoivea, xnat tne interests oi me peopie of the State of California demand in harmony har-mony with the organio law of the State that the presence of .the Chinese should be discouraged dis-couraged in every particular, and that in every instanoe preference should be given to white labor; and we earnestly appeal to the people to dor their utmost to supplant the Chinese with such labor. We are not in favor of any unlawful methods, but so firmly are we impressed with the great importance of discouraging the employment of the Chinese Chi-nese that we recommend that they be not patronized in any way, and we are in favor at the very earliest moment of boycotting any person who employs the Chinese, directly or indireotly, or who purchases the products of Chinese labor. . The date at whioh the boycott commences in different localities shall in all cases be left to the local leagues. .
