Show Former Pleasant Grove man dies in mining disaster A former Pleasant Grove resident was listed among the miners who died in the Wilberg mine disaster near Orangeville in Emery County. Robert Scott Christensen, 32, son of Dean and Helen Christensen of Pleasant Grove, had been an employee em-ployee at the mine for about five years. Robert grew up in Pleasant Grove, having moved here with hisfamily when he was 4 years old. He was a graduate of Pleasant Grove High School. He and his wife, Gayle, and their four children lived in Castle Dale, Utah. Robert was one of 27 miners who died in the tragedy when fire broke out in the mine last week. Only one man was able to reach safety after the fire began, according to news reports. New flare ups in the fire have made it impossible for the rescuers to remove the bodies of the men and woman. If the mine is sealed to try and stem the fire, it may be some time before the victims' bodies can be brought out of the mine. A former neighbor of Robert's said that he was noted for his smile and friendly attitude. "Everyone who knew him couldn't help but like him," was the response of Lena Wilson who has lived across the street from the Christensen family since they moved here. Funeral services are pending. |
