Show dDIbittBnairne Bessie Mahoney Bessie Johnson Mahoney, a Park City native, died on Monday, Mon-day, Sept. 26, at the age of 83. She was born June 22, 1900 to Olaf and Elizabeth Stringer Johnson. She was wed to Ernest E. Mahoney in Rupert, Idaho on July 20, 1920, and the marriage was later soleminized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. The couple lived at the Goldacres Mine in Nevada from 1946 to 1970, where Mrs. Mahoney organized a children's Bible class. In her younger days, she was also active in Relief Society, Mutual and Primary. Survivors include her husband, Salt Lake; daughters Mrs. Kenneth (Farel) Smith of Sandy, and Betty Symes, Salt Lake; sister Margaret "Madge" Johnson; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services are set for Thursday noon in the Cottonwood Cotton-wood 8th Ward, 6310 South 2300 East. Burial will be at the Heber City Cemetery. Antonio Mendiola Antonio Mendiola died Sunday, Sept. 25, in a Salt Lake hospital of natural causes. He was 57. He was born June 13, 1926, in Durango, Mexico, to Jesus and Josefa Solis Mendiola. The family later moved to Park City, where Antonio grew up. According to brother Arturo, Mendiola graduated in the Park City High class of 1946, and last year served as president of the school's Alumni Association. Phyllis Offret, speaking to Record historian Bea Kummer, recalled the Mendiola was a miner, and played steel guitar in the local band headed by Tex Ross. He left town in 1949 to study aeronautics in California, said his brother. (His mother and father lived in Park City until 1967.) For many years, he was a mechanic and flight engineer for Western Airlines and World Airways. At the time of his death, he was a diesel mechanic for Wheeler Machinery. Survivors include his mother and brother in Salt Lake; and nephews Steve Mendiola (Buckley, Washington) and Greg Mendiola (Salt Lake). A funeral mass is set for Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Catholic Church, 450 East 2100 South. Burial will be at Redwood Red-wood Memorial Estates. |
