Martin Burger was named today as a Special Coach of the U.S. Mens Alpine Ski Team. Burger, 34, from Pettneu, Tirol, Austria, formerly coached with the U.S. Mens Team from 1970 to 1972. He rejoins the U.S. Team e on October 15th to work with the mens team members on the Can Am Series and Europa Cup circuit. In making the announcement, Alpine Team Director Hank Tauber said, Martin brings a wealth of international coaching and racing experience back to the U.S. Team. While working with the team in 1971 and 1972, he was instrumental in the development of many of our present top A full-tim- team members. His technical knowledge and understanding of all aspects of alpine racing will be a great asset to Our mens team. Burger was Austrian Junior Champion in 1958 and was a member of the Austrian National Team from 1961 to 1966. He won the Bronze Medal in giant slalom at the 1962 World Alpine Championships in Chamonix, France. He was several limes Austrian National Champion in giant slalom and was a member of the 1964 Austrian Olympic Team . He began coaching in 1966 and coached the Chilean Ski Team and later the English Womens Team before joining the U.S. Ski Team. Burger joins the mens coaching staff of Hanspeter Rohr, Head Mais Coach, and Harald Schonhaar, Special Mens Coach.
