Designated as Spirit Week, the activities ranged from Hat Day on Monday to Fridays parade down Main Street. Some of the various events Park High students participated in included Graffiti Day, when students dressed up a la the Sixties, and Red Day, when nothing but red the schools colors could be worn. A system of fines added incentive for student body participation. Ranging from $.10 to $15, those who couldn't pay up were auctioned off as slaves on Wednesday. Some of the weeks activities were unique to Park High. One such event, the Name the Minor Contest, provided a free bus pass to all away games. Greer Prince came up with the winning name for the new Park High emblem: Big Red Fred the Miner. Most high schools dont have parades as part of their Homecoming activities. Not only did Park High have a parade, but every class participated in it. As expected, the Seniors took first place for their float which carried Homecoming Queen Valerie Pratt and her two attendants, Maria Sweeten and Debbie Goff. Juniors came in second with their Roasting Marshmallows float. And the Seventh and Eighth graders took third. A new group, the Mini Miners Yelling Squad, was featured in the parade, along with the Cheerleaders, Drill Team, and, of course, the football players. No Homecoming is complete without a Homecoming dance. Sponsored by the Cheerleaders, Friday night's dance capped off a very eventful week. The game aside, one student best described the week by saying, "It was super, super neat." t |
