Show HON FOUND NOT GUILTY BY Court Orders Defendant Exonerated Ex-onerated of Kidnaping Charge. TOMBSTONE, Ariz., April 30. (By The Associated Press). H. E. Woot-ton, Woot-ton, charged with kidnaping In connection connec-tion with the Bisbeo asportations of July 12, 1917, tonight -was found not guilty. The jury brought In Its verdict at 7:25 o'clock. The jury retired for its deliberations at 6:12 o'clock this afternoon. Short ly after 'its return from supper, it was announced that a verdict had been reached. Only one ballot was taken. Defendant Ordered Discharged. Judge PAtteo asked counsel for the state If there were any other charges against Wootton, and a negative reply was given. Thereupon tho court ordered or-dered that the defendant be exonerated exoner-ated and discharged, and an adjournment adjourn-ment was taken. "We believe that the verdict was right both In the law and tho evidence land we are satisfied," was the comment com-ment made by William P. Burges, of El Paso, chlqf of counsel for the defense. de-fense. Blanket Case of 159 to Be Tried. "The verdict In this case will have no effect on the prosecution of 159 defendants de-fendants In the 'blankot case' trial of which will begin June 7, County Attorney At-torney Robert N. French said. "The defendants will bo tried Jointly." Mr. French repeated his previous announcement an-nouncement that tho charges against 10 other- defendants, likewise accused of kidnaping In connection With the deportations, would probably bo dismissed dis-missed after Ihe "blanket case" had !been tried. The county attorney add ed, however, that he would take no action In the matter at this time. The trial lasted near!)' three months. oo |
