Show CCC Closes 264 Camps in U. S. WASHINGTON Announcement was made Sunday by James J. Mc Entire, director of civilian conservation con-servation that because of reduced re-duced appropriations, 264 CCC camps will be closed effective today. This will cut the number of camps from 1500 to 1236. The CCC appropriation for fiscal year ending end-ing Monday, was $2SO.OOO,000 and is $264,900 000 for 1941-42. CCC expects to start the nfiw' fiscal year with 232.500 men compared com-pared with an average in the closing 12 months of 70.000 men. Approximately 75.000 new cn-rcilkes cn-rcilkes will be lakon in soon, to fill vacancies created by "graduation" "gradua-tion" and by largo numbers of youths leaving the corps to accept jobs in private industry or to join one of the armed services. Tne size of the corps will not be greatly increased over the July figure. j |
