Show BOY SCOUTS " LEAH I RE-DEDICATION The Cache Valley Council of the Boy Scouts of America is taking the initiative in this area in responding re-sponding to the call of President Roosevelt and Mayor F. H. La Guardia, United States director of civilian defense, for a nationwide nation-wide re-duction to tire ideals of Americanism and for a demonstration demon-stration of national unity to take place on next Friday, July 4. "Our hope is that everyone of the 2400 Scouts and 600 volunteer volun-teer Scouters of this area will take the lead in his community or family fam-ily group in drawing the attention atten-tion of all citizens to this opportunity oppor-tunity to make this Independence day, an occasion for re-dedication to our Government and ideals," said Fredrick P. Champ, president of the Cache Valley Council who, on behalf of the Council, has addressed ad-dressed a letter to each of the Mayors in the Council area, offering of-fering the services Of Scout troops and patrols as ushers and aids and any other capacities at community communi-ty celebrations on the 4th of July and on all other appropriate occasions, oc-casions, and calling attention to the desire of the Scouts and the Council to render the maximum in public service at all Kmes. The following letter was delivered deli-vered to each Scoutmaster in the Council area yesterday: The 4th of July will be rededi-cation rededi-cation day in the United States of America. 132 million loyal Americans Am-ericans will be asked to rededi-cate rededi-cate themselves to the ideals of Americanism f "A few days ago President Roosevelt made this statement, ' . . these are also days of hope and as the' birthday of American independence draws near it is altogether al-together fitting that we should re-dedicate ourselves to defend and perpetuate those inalienable rights which found true expression expres-sion in the immortal Declaration. Those words never had a deeper or more solemn meaning for America Am-erica than they have in this hour of anxiety and peril.' "On July 4th at 2:00 p. m. Mountain Time, the President will address the entire nation, after which the Star Spangled Banner will be played and all Americans Ameri-cans (132,000,000) strong) will be called upon to renew the Pledge of Allegiance. "We urge that you make an effort to call together your family fam-ily and friends listen to this great broadcast, and participate in this opportunity to strengthen and invigorate Democracy." In view of the brief elapsed time since the national call has been issued, President Champ points out that it is necessary to rely upon the press and the radio to relay the message and the Council's program to the Scouts, Scouters and the community at large. "Much, therefore will depend de-pend upon the initiative and leadership lead-ership of local Scout leaders in conducting this re-committal to the sacred principles on which our country was founded and the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag.'" t |
