Show Capitalism Is Nature's Law By GEORGE TECK A few weeks ago in this column col-umn we advanced the idea that capitalism is suffering from a bit of a toothache, that its teeth did not have to be yanked, that they simuly needed filling. We did not expect everyone to agree with this and we were not disappointed. Among the letters let-ters that came to us was one which read as follows : "Your smug and totally unconvincing defense of Capitalism which I have just read in our local newspaper news-paper plainly indicates to me that you know very little about either Capitalism or Dentistry. Where have you been hibernating the past few years? "Any good dentist will tell you that teeth eventually arrive at the sage where willing can no longer save them and the rules of health demand they be pulled. Capitalism is now suffering from a combination of decay, trench . ening to find his condition no better and that he had sacrificed his teeth in vain. Let's be sure the teeth must be pulled before we give them up By the same token, let's be mighty certain that Capitalism is out-moded before be-fore we discard it. muuui, pyorrean ana abscess its teeth must be yanked." We dislike to disagree with a lady but disagree we must in the interest of truth. We confess con-fess that we have no profound knowledge of dentistry but this one simple elementary fact about teeth we do know, and that is THAT NO FALSE TOOTH CAN EVER GIVE THE SERVICE THAT DOES THE GOD-GIVEN TOOTH. Nature provides, and all the skill and ingenuity of man cannot even come close to duplicating dupli-cating its marvellous creations. Nature has developed the capitalistic capi-talistic system. Man's predominant predomin-ant urge is to better his position. posi-tion. Capitalism provides the medium me-dium through which he can accomplish ac-complish this. It is the only system sys-tem of economics yet devised, under un-der which the individual ' who works harder and better can forge ahead of his fellow men Now, the anti-caDitaliuLs do not agree that anyone should progress ahead of his fellowmSn. This is contrary to nature's lav for all history proves that where men live under some political system sys-tem where individual initiative and thrift go unrewarded, there always has been fmmj o j i- - ucfiui- ably low standard of living and culture. America has tried her experiments experi-ments with communistic or socialistic so-cialistic schemes. The early Puritans Puri-tans tried one there was the James-town Plan the Shakers and many others. They all failed, and why? Simply because the honey bees m the hive eventually objected ob-jected to the drones participat- ir?nn eqUal degree wi111 them MAN DOES NOT WANT TO BE ON AN EQUAL BASIS WITH ALL OF HIS FELLOWS. Only the weak ones who cannot or will not pull their weight in the boat are content with equal sharing of the wealth. Thus, sooner or later, but inevitably, the real' workers rebel against giving part of their well-earned gains to those who shrink their responsibilities, respon-sibilities, and the so-called ideal jstic Utopia collapses like a hollow hol-low egg-shell. jtUri1,law1 asserts m- , 6 Planned economies like false teeth cannot do the job as well as the economy which .unctions along natural line per mittmg man to produce and' keen for himself most of what he Pr0 Many feGth have t0 be extracted ex-tracted on suspicion -that they are causing the trouble.
