Show j LOCAL OUTLOOK FOR 1929 The editor has completed making a survey of conditions in the leading industries of Beaver county and while there is nothing startling in sight for Milford or locality during the coming year, there is every reason to believe that the slogan for the' entire county can just as well be "Straight Ahead in 1929." Questions were asked of men conversant with conditions condi-tions here and data compiled consisting of facts relative to farming, mining and railroad employment. The purpose of gathering- this information was selfish, we admit, as this information went to national advertising agencies. In farming, the seed harvest was not quite up to normal but Milford valley boosters still can point with pride to our farms in the valley, developed, figuratively speaking, almost overnight. Dairying has grown by leaps and bounds until the milk payroll to farmers in this county approaches the thirty-thousand dollar figure per month. Tangible evidence that mining is again going to approach ap-proach something like the days when it was the backbone of the county is revealed in developments at the Horn Silver mine. All of the outlying mines in this district are planning plan-ning a big year of development and ore shipment. As for the railroad, transfers and 'bumping' will as usual cause some of our residents uneasiness. But at present, pres-ent, the railroad payroll here is as large as ever and extra trainmen have found lucrative employment here this winter-Passenger winter-Passenger traffic through Milford to the park region will be greater next year, bjs the Utah parks region gains in popularity each season. So while there may be nothing to go completely into ecstacies about, the general tone of business this fall and winter presages well for next year. We will have a much better looking town for one thing, and that has a dollars and cents value. We have enough separate and unallied industries in-dustries and vocations in the county to afford everyone a chance to profit through work. All we have to do is to keep both feet on the ground, exploit what we have and build for the future but not sit complacently waiting for our ship to come in. |
