A passengor named Abbott mado his way to tho englno, released tho air brakes and let tho trnln mako n gravity grav-ity run out. When the train reached Wenatcho at 7 o'clock, tho conductor, brakoman and two women passengers wore still unconscious. Tho gas in tho tunnel was so heavy that It extinguished extin-guished all of the lights In tho entlro train. Tho train was being hauled by two engines, and tho engineers and firemen of both wero overcome. But for tho heroic work of Abbott, tho pas-songer, pas-songer, all on tho train would havo been suffocated, It Is belloved. Tho train becamo stalled through an accident acci-dent to tho air brakes. Tho gaa was caused by tho engines. Tho tunnel la nearly two miles long. |
