Show Democratic Funeral Service I Disciples of T. J., A. J., G. C, W. J. B., I and Hearst Hold County Wake. I The Democratic funeral service preliminary pre-liminary to tho grand burial on November No-vember 0, was held at the court houso Monday. The spacious room was not tilled to overflowing with loving friends who camo to pay their last respects, re-spects, and thoro was neither (lowers nor muslc-rln fact there was much unseemly un-seemly levity, and paradoxical as It may seem tho corpses being prepared for interment were deeply Interested In tho wake and were speakers at tho last sad rites over thuir rapidly disintegrating disin-tegrating bodies. This made the service ser-vice Interesting, at least, despite the absence of tears and crape. Thctprcllmlnary service was conducted con-ducted under the auspices of tho former form-er bishop of Rich county, Hon. Aqulll-cus Aqulll-cus Nebeker, who delivered that famous fa-mous and favorite oration he has rehearsed re-hearsed In stentorian tonqs In tho Coop Co-op drugstore each day during tho last nlno months. Mr. Tho re-son desired the convention to order his paper framed, but tho party Is short on money and he was put oil with casual mention In the platform. Adjournment was taken until 1:30 o'clock. Tho result was as follows: For Senator. Wm. Edwards named A. G. Barber and the delegates whooped and yelled. Mr. Barber was named by acclamation. He was mado to appear before tho convention, and ho then pledged his energy and whole servlco to the in-tcrsts in-tcrsts of Cache. For Representatives. Samuel Hendricks named Joseph Monson.and again the delegates howled howl-ed and stamped. Ho was named by acclamation. Mr Murray named KVanrO.vcnof Wellsville. fl. E Hatch named I. 0. Thoreson. Tho cheering Indicated tho choice. Thorcson didn't look good to dc gang, autl the voto resulted, 75 M for Owen, 35 for the other fellow. H Evan Owen then namod F. K. H Nebeker. Ho tried hard to decline. fl Hon Aquilla tried hard to help him M by naming Mr. Thorcson again but M that gentleman positively refused. The delegates then named Mr. Ncbe- H iker by acclamation despite all pro- H tests H Commissioner. H N J. Nielsen, of Hyrum, was named H for tho 4-ycar-term by acclamation. H For the two year term, Peter S. M Barson of Clarkston, and J. W. Hen- M drlcks, of Richmond, wcro named. L. M C. Farr, and John Grltlln o'f New- M ton, seconded Barson, and F. K. None- M kcr seconded Hendricks. The voto M resulted 73 for Hendricks and 38 for M Barson. B For Clerk. M. J. Ballard named Joseph W. M Karnes for clerk. Smurthwatto and M A. E. Cranncy seconded tno nomlna- M tion, which was Anally made byac- M clamation M For Recorder. Joseph Monson presented the namo M of Miss Llnnle Telford, of Richmond. H Antohu Pchrson named Mrs. Hannah M Jacobscn, who declined. Miss Tel- M ford was named by acclamation after M a seconding speech by Mrs. Slater. M For Treasurer. There was a little contest hero be- H tween banking Interests. The That- M chcr Interests supported George G. M Hendricks, who was named by I. 0. H Thorcson, and tho Cacho Valley Bank H stood behind Geo. O. Haybail, who was H named by Aquilla Nebeker. The voto H resulted, Haybail 70,Ilcndrlcks 44. A For Sheriff. I F. K. Nebeker made a glowing H speech for S. R. Evans, of L:wiston H and Daniel Hoops named Bishop N. H W. Crookston. The latter gentleman H refused to accept becauso of hlscc- H clcslastical position and an Indisposl- H tion to break up a happy ward family H which, ho said, Is about evcnldlvid- H ed politically. Tho delegates cheered H Mr. Crookston heartily and named H Mi. Evans by acclamation. For Assessor. - Bottu Wellsville and Smlthfleld wanted to namo the assessor. E. R. Owens presented James A Lclshman; Mr. I'etcrson named Frank Coleman. The vote stood Coleman 70, Lelshman 44. For Attorney. The Dems were up against it for an attorney. Efforts to induce J. 0. Walters to lend his namo, not as a Democrat, but as a republican, had , been made, but he refused of course. F. K. Nebeker named I. 0. Thorcscn as ono of th- best lawyers in the state and tried hard to convince Mr. Thorcson Thorc-son of the fact but that gentleman balked. Wm. Edwards then named Roy I). Thatcher, and ho was nominated nomin-ated by acclamation. County Superintendent. Mrs. A. J. Morrill named Parley E. Peterson, of Smlthlleld. Thomas Lelshman named "Bro. H'Oldham," of Paradise. Peterson won out by a scoro of 48 to 10. For surveyor, Edward Hansen was named by acclamation. Hyrum Haybail was selected as county chairman. |
