Show FRUIT TREES. The representative of an eastern nursery firm, who canvassed this county some months ago, taking orders for various kinds of fruit trees, arrived some time since with the trees that had been ordered - an immense quantity. Many of our farmers are finding it difficult to raise the money to pay for the trees they have ordered, but the treeman is reaping a rich harvest from those who have the "ready." He gets 50 cents apiece for gooseberry slips a few inches long and proportionate prices for strawberry plants and other articles in his line. Many of our people are just gullible enough to buy these things at such prices, notwithstanding that Utah fruits, particularly apples, peaches, apricots, strawberries and gooseberries, cannot be surpassed in the United States, and that they may be obtained for a tithe of what the imported cost. |
