Show AN AFFRAY. On Wednesday evening last Wm. (William) Buder entered Ormsby's drug store and asked for a bottle of Jamaica ginger. The clerk gave it to him and he put it in his overcoat pocket. Dr. (Doctor) Ormsby, seeing that he was drunk, tried to persuade him to give the bottle back, as he has refused to pay for it, and he had already become intoxicated by drinking Jamaica ginger. Buder refused either to pay for or return it. The Dr. (Doctor) seized his collar to prevent his leaving the store with it when Buder threw the bottle on the floor, smashing it, and at the same time threatened to bow the Dr's (Doctor's) brains out. He put his hand in his pocket and the Dr. (Doctor), supposing he was about to shoot, seized an iron rod used as a poker, and struck Buder four times with it, twice on the shoulders, and twice on the head, cutting the scalp so that it bled quite freely. Messrs. David Reese and J. H. Hughes were in the store, and the former dodged behind the soda fountain as a shelter from the threatened bullets, while the latter seized Buder's arm to prevent his firing. It seems, however, that Buder really had no weapon. After being struck, Buder went before Judge Cranney and swore out a warrant. We go to press too soon to give the result of the trial. |
