Show DEMOCRATS DEFEATED. We delay the press to insert the following dispatch. We telegraphed Supt. (Superintendent) Dougall of the Des. Telegraph Line asking for the result of the presidential election, that we might give it to our readers today. Salt Lake City, Nov. (November) 4, 1880. Logan Leader - States carried by Garfield are Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont and Wisconsin. States carried by Hancock are Alabama, Arkansas, California, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Mississippi, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. Total electoral votes, one hundred and fifty-six. It is thus seen that the Democrats are overwhelmingly defeated. The election passed off quietly in all the states so far as is known, and there does not, at present, appear to be any danger of fighting or bloodshed. |
