Show TRUE TO THYSELF. By Frank J. Ottarson. Wise was the father who, to end Good council, thus addressed his son. "If to thyself thou art but true Thou will be true to everyone. True to thyself! How brave and free The heart that knows its pulses true; How clear and bold the eye that scans Without a blanch these pulses through! True to thyself! Without a thought That will not bear the bless of day No act that will not stand the light A world may cast your way! Promise thyself! For, next to heaven's Self-promise is a sacred thing: Promise - and keep - unto thyself A true heart's holy offering. True to thyself! Walk forth, brave son! One in ten thousand. One who can Be thus far true can ne'er be false, In word or deed, to any man." |
