Show 10A lakeside Review, Wednesday, Oct, 21, 1981 Residents Ask for Help On Water Problem Mt. Aire Estates is having a LAYTON severe water drainage problem" and two of the residents of that street have appealed to the City Council for help. Sam Chelemes, developer of the project, was granted an extension on the installation of the curb and gutter along the street until next fall and the two homeowners dont feel that they can wait that long for action. When I bought my property I was told that it would be fixed up this summer, said one of the owners, De wight Foster. Foster said that he has had up to a foot of water in his basement in the past and that the water ponds in front of his home and that of his neighbor, Rod Rodriguez. Rodriguez said that he had hauled 40 truck-load- s of soil into his front yard but that the water still is a big problem. Chelemes stated that the contractors of the homeowners had destroyed the drainage line during construction and that the water was following the natural drainage line that it had followed for the past 20 years. He stated that it soon will be too late to put curb and gutter in this year since the surrounding ground will probably settle "and if it freezes the newly poured cement would cause problems with the curb. Both parties agreed that a small drainage ditch would help until a more permanent solu- tion can be made next spring and they will be working with Councilman John Baker and the public works department to solve the problem.
